TDH international is proud to collaborate with Barcelona International Dance Exchange (BIDE) and Music HUB on a new dance and music residency program at La Caldera Studios IN BARCELONA. The program is open to dancers interested in exploring new approaches to creative practice and performance by challenging their respective voices with curiosity and delving into the many intersections with live music.
TDH/BIDE will take place at the beautiful studios at La Caldera, Carrer d’Eugeni d’Ors, 12, 08028 Barcelona. La Caldera is a center for creation devoted since 1995 to artistic practices based on body and movement. It’s mainly focused on hosting and accompanying artists’ creative processes and proposing innovative contexts for sharing them. A center that encourages research, thought and its transmission; which works on stimulating emergent creation, the renewal of languages and connecting with new audience.
Giada Matteini (TDH): somatics and contemporary ballet
Giada Matteini, born and raised in Florence-Italy, has worked as a performer, educator, choreographer, curator and producer in New York City since 1998. With Italian parents and an American son, she has dedicated the past 10 years of her life to bridge the geographical distances of the 2 continents she inhabits. Giada is today the Artistic Director of Toscana Dance HUB, TDH/BIDE, TDH Festival for Emerging Choreographers, The Larger WE performance series, the Agropoli Danza Festival, and the Second Avenue Dance Company. She is a dance professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts in NYC and has traveled as a guest artist to Germany, Sweden, Austria, China, The Philippines, Mexico and across the U.S. and Italy. Giada today performs with JENNIFERCHINdance, Molissa Fenley and Company and teaches company class for the Limón Dance Company.
Toni Costa (Music HUB): music director
Toni Costa is a musician and educator devoted to dance based in Barcelona. He was trained in classical piano in the N. A. Rimski-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory, where he had his first contact with ballet. Upon returning to Spain, he graduated from ESMuC (High Music School of Catalonia) after extending his improvisational skills in classical, flamenco, early music and modern styles. With a wide background in piano performance, he started to develop his career working in dance schools and companies focusing on dance accompaniment. He has worked as a dance class pianist both in USA and UK, getting involved in San Francisco Ballet, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Post:Ballet, Elmhurst Ballet School and Birmingham Royal Ballet. He regularly collaborates with ballet masters and mistresses such as David Makhateli, Larisa Lezhnina, Rodolfo Castellanos, Isabelle Ciaravola, Julie Kent, Samira Saidi, Piotr Nardelli and Robert Parker, to name a few. Toni also plays for contemporary dancers workshops with Robert Dekkers, Cherryl Therrien, Rita Quaglia, Christophe Jeannotte, Natalia Viñes, Catherine Bisson amongst others. He is passionate for the modern and contemporary dance techniques created by pioneers such as Graham, Cunningham, Limón and many others.
Sebastián García Ferro (BIDE): Artistic Director
Choreographer, dancer, performer and composer based in Barcelona since 2005. He has directed his own company since 2000 and staged nineteen pieces like “Solamente Solo” (2000), “Huellas” (2003), “Back” (2007), “Travellers” (2009), “Colapsar” (2011), “Impasse #2” (2013). He has formed at Argentina, USA and Europe, winning awards that include first prize for the best choreography at the 2007 Maspalomas Competition. Over the last few years he has received several commissions for large pieces. These include for name a few; Versus 0.2 for the Compañía Nacional de Danza Contemporánea de Argentina, Orquestrat for the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Ballet de la Ópera de Rieka with “Air From There”, the TOTDANSA Project in 2011 and 2012 and TOTDANSEN 2013 with 650 tennage dancers on stage. In 2016 he premier his large piece +45 co-produce by the Mercat de les Flors, Festival Grec y Festival Sismograf among others touring in Europe and America. He is preparing his new big project "UPPER" for Premier and touring for 2020/21. He is Associated choreographer of La Caldera/les Corts Choreography Center, Artistic Collaborator at Auditori and Residence Composer of the Fundación Phonos/Pompeu Fabra University. He found BIDE in 2007.
Lorena Nogal (La Veronal): Kova technique instructor
Born in Barcelona in 1984. Lorena Nogal trained as a dancer at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, where she graduated in 2005, and at the company IT Dansa, where she worked repertoire of internationally renowned choreographers: Ohad Naharin, Jirí Kilyán, Stijn Celis or Nacho Duato. Since 2008 she has been part of the artistic team of La Veronal, a company with whom she works as choreographic assistant and dancer. Together with Marcos Morau she has also collaborated with: Compañía Nacional de Danza, Scapino Ballet, Carte Blanche, Norrdans, Skånes Dansteater, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and Beijing Dance Theater. As a freelance dancer, she has also worked with Gelabert-Azzopardi, Lanònima Imperial and Plan B Danza. In 2016 she was distinguished as the best dancer at the critics’ prizes of Catalonia. In 2018, with several dancers launched the project called HOTEL col.lecitu escènic.This is a Catalan dance company that is born with the wish to build crossroads which will allows us to inhabit other creators’ worlds and imaginaries. The group invites artists from different performing disciplines to create and direct them. She also makes her own creations. Her last creation was THE PROM for ITDANSA premiered in July of 2018.
Jeremy Alberge: Floorwork instructor
Jeremy was born in 1992 in Paris. In 2009, he won the French championship of Electro Dance, a competition for street dancers. After this, driven by a desire to broaden his horizons, he began training in different movement methods. In 2010, he joined Blanca Li Dance Company for two seasons. In 2012, he created, in collaboration with Arnaud Bacharach, a trilogy of short duets performed in several festivals and theatres in Paris. From 2013 until 2015, Jeremy joined the Junior Ballet Geneva where he got the opportunity to perform several pieces from choreographers such as Hofesh Shechter, Osnat Kelner, Wayne McGregor, Barak Marshall, Roy Assaf, Cindy Van Acker and Stijn Celis. From 2015 until 2017, he danced with Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company. In 2017, he joined Vertigo Dance Company. And in 2019 Roy Assaf Dance.
Jeremy has been teaching throughout his career in China, The United States, Canada, France, The United Kingdom, Russia, Italy and Israel. He was recently certified as an Ilan-Lev practitioner.
